"The Last Yellow Rose immerses the reader in the complexities of loss, betrayal, lack of communication, and of family. . . . These poems pay attention to enriching details of work on the farm, for instance, the technique of teaching very young calves to drink from a bucket, and the details of cooking large meals to take to the field during harvest, as well as cooking food for the special diet required for a child with PKU. These poems tell it like it is. There is sadness here but there is also grace and determination . . . ."

Marjorie Saiser, author of The Track the Whales Make

The Last Yellow Rose is part of a new Sandhills Press series--The Plainswoman Series--which publishes collections of poetry written by women from the Great Plains. In 2025, Sandhills Press published two volumes to start the new series: Fast Horse by Marjorie Saiser and The Last Yellow Rose by Lin Marshall Brummels.

Lin Marshall Brummels was raised on a dairy farm and honors those country roots by boarding horses. She earned a BS from the University of Nebraska and a MS from Syracuse University. A licensed Nebraska counselor, after forty years counseling college students, she and a colleague opened a private mental health counseling service.
