Advance Practice Nurses are in high demand as community-based care becomes more and more urgent in our post-COVID world. At this critical time, the country is in dire need of APNs who can offer patient-centered, quality care and services - either in collaboration with a Physician or at their own clinics. Nurses have always risen to the challenge in a crisis. They have demonstrated time and again enormous courage and stamina. COVID-19 has impacted healthcare profoundly and, as family practices dwindle, nurses have once again been called to the rescue to provide services. But while APNs may be highly skilled professionals, as they venture out into the marketplace to start their own businesses, they may be in for a few surprises. Although they are masters at providing care to patients, opening a new business presents challenges that their extensive training and educational curriculum failed to prepare them for. Dr. Omolara Olaniyi, an NP in a family care practice for 17 years, opened her own business in 2017. While giving birth to her new venture, she hit some major obstacles that she had to overcome. Opening her new business became a baptism by fire. In this concise book, Dr. Olaniyi shares many of the triumphs, challenges and best practices she developed while turning her solo practice into a winning enterprise. Starting Your Own Nurse Practitioner Business covers issues NPs will face when they make the decision to go out on their own, including business plans, malpractice insurance, funding, EHR software, lab set-up, finding appropriate locations, hiring and retaining a talented work force, accountability and leadership. DR. OMOLARA OLANIYI has extensive clinical experience at healthcare institutions and ambulatory facilities. She has practiced for 17 years before opening her own business. She has been in the industry for over four decades. She had intense training in Nigeria as a Nurse/Midwife, and worked in this capacity for 12 years before coming to the States. Once here, she obtained her BSN and MSN. She later obtained a PhD in Nursing (Leadership). She has worked in the following clinical settings: Medical, Surgical, Orthopedic, Ob/Gyn, Urgent Care, Emergency, Neonatal ICU, Prison Health and Ambulatory Clinic settings. She opened her own NP business in 2017.
