The philosopher, classicist, and sinologist Fran輟is Jullien is one of France's foremost contemporary thinkers. Over the course of the past thirty-five years, he has written a vast body of works that have been translated in over 30 countries. In France, he is widely read among psychologists, artists, educators, social scientists, and consultants. And yet, in the English-speaking world, he is not sufficiently known outside of academic circles in East Asian studies, cultural studies, and philosophy.
The aim of this book is to provide a synthetic overview of the entirety of his publishedworks for the academic and non-academic anglophone public. Through a careful study of Ancient and Classical reference texts that belong to both the European and Chinese traditions that Jullien draws inspiration from, the book seeks to highlight the unheard conceptual resources of his intercultural and existential philosophy of living.
Circulating in between cultures and eras, the book shows how Fran輟is Jullien's thought allows us to re-open possibilities in our individual and collective lives so that we can access life truly lived and exist on the wayside of the nefarious ideologies that govern 21st century society.
