Including media from beadwork and jewelry to video and painting, the highly illustrated Indigenous Identities foregrounds the significance of identity in artmaking through the diverse practices of ninety-seven artists, representing more than fifty distinct Indigenous nations and tribes across the United States. Included are essays by Native American scholars and artists that range from an overview of Native art to spotlights on different media: photography, new art, poetry, sculpture, ceramics, painting, jewelry, and fashion. The book also includes an interview of the artist and curator Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation) by Neal Ambrose-Smith.
